In the age of social media, FOMO (Fear of Missing Out) has become a term that is casually thrown around, reflecting our obsession with wanting to be a part of something greater. But have we ever stopped to consider where this fear stems from? At its core, FOMO is essentially the fear of being forgotten. It’s the same fear that prompts us to think about our legacy and what we will leave behind after death. In many ways, this fear is profoundly human. We want to matter, to be remembered, to make a lasting impact. But is it even possible to escape this fear? And should we even try to?

Fear of Being Forgotten: Root of FOMO

The fear of missing out, or FOMO, is prevalent in a world where we are constantly bombarded with information about other people’s lives. Social media has become a platform to showcase accomplishments, travels, relationships, and all sorts of things that we could potentially miss out on. The constant influx of this information can trigger feelings of envy, inadequacy, and the fear of being forgotten or left behind.

The Desire to Leave a Legacy
